After earning my medical license and completing a Ph.D. in medicine, I worked as a surgeon in Japan while raising three children and conducting research.
Life was a daily balancing act—constantly juggling responsibilities and often having to sacrifice something. But in 2022, I moved to Stanford University as a postdoctoral researcher, and it was there that I realized the importance of “living authentically.”
Currently, I’m engaged in research to better understand the roles of neutrophils and macrophages in tumors and inflammatory diseases, while also exploring the next chapter of my career.
I’m also passionate about promoting Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, Equity, and Justice (DIBEJ). As Co-Chair of the Family Committee at Stanford SURPAS, I plan and organize events to support postdoc families and help create an environment where researchers from all backgrounds can thrive with peace of mind.
When I first arrived at Stanford, I often struggled with questions about my future while managing both research and parenting. That’s when I found JWIBA. Connecting with people who are forging their own vibrant paths—regardless of gender—was incredibly inspiring. In Japan, I often felt driven by what I had to do. In the U.S., I’ve been able to reflect on how I want to live. Through JWIBA, I hope to offer others that same opportunity for connection, reflection, and encouragement to take their next step forward.
My specialty is breast and endocrine surgery. I’m board-certified in surgery, breast surgery, and oncology treatment. In my personal life, I’m a busy mom of three. I enjoy yoga, karaoke, and appreciating music and the arts.
My dream now is to take on challenges that only I can pursue—right here in the U.S. I’m embracing the journey of trial and error, and continuing to challenge myself with joy. My favorite word is “thank you”—because I’ve come this far thanks to the support of so many people. I hope to be someone who can offer that same support to others, too.
